John A. Day has been a lawyer in Middle Tennessee for over 30 years. His law practice consists solely of civil litigation, and his firm is known as one of the leading personal injury and wrongful death law firms in Tennessee. Historically, he has represented plaintiffs in the personal injury and wrongful death fields, but his practice has also included commercial litigation. One example of the breadth of his practice is his recognition in the 2007-2015 editions of Best Lawyers in America in five different areas: Bet-the-Company Litigation, Medical Malpractice Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Products Liability Litigation, and Personal Injury Litigation. In 2009, Best Lawyers named John "Lawyer of the Year, Personal Injury" for Nashville; he is the first recipient of that award. Best Lawyers also named him "Lawyer of the Year, Medical Malpractice" for 2010 and 2014, and "Lawyer of the Year, Bet-the-Company Litigation" for 2012.

At age 36, he received his first recognition in Best Lawyers in America, and has been included in every edition of the publication since 1993. That same year, he was honored with an AV rating by Martindale Hubbell, a rating which continues to this day. The Martindale publication also has awarded John a 5.0 on its numerical rating score, which is the highest possible rating.

John is board-certified in civil trial practice by the National Board of Legal Specialty Certification. Fewer than 150 lawyers in Tennessee have earned this certification. John served as that organization's President in 2003-04, and was called back into service as its Treasurer from 2008 to 2010. In 2013, John was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award. John is also board-certified in Medical Malpractice by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys.

John is routinely included in "Best Lawyer" lists in Nashville and Tennessee, and has been named in Mid-South Super Lawyers Top 100 for the last eight years. He was named one of Nashville's Top 101 Lawyers for 2011 by the Nashville Post and in June of 2014 was named one of Nashville's best lawyers by the Nashville Business Journal.

In 2002 John was elected as a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, and is currently serving as State Chair. This international organization includes many of the best-known, highly-respected trial lawyers in the country, and fewer than 200 lawyers in Tennessee have been elected to membership.

John served as President Tennessee Association for Justice in 1993-94, and served as Chair of the Council of State Presidents of the American Association for Justice in 1994-95. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Nashville Bar Association and as Chair of the Tennessee Bar Association's Tort and Insurance Practice Section.

John also currently serves on three important Tennessee Supreme Court commissions: the Court's Commission on Rules and Procedure, the Tennessee Judicial Evaluation Commission (as an appointee of former Lt. Gov. John S. Wilder), and was appointed as the first Chair of the Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission in 2009.

John's first book, Tennessee Law of Comparative Fault, co-authored with Donald Capparella, is published by Thomason-West and is updated annually. John's second book, Day on Torts, is now in its third edition, Day on Torts: Leading Cases in Tennessee Tort Law. He has just released a new book, Tennessee Law of Civil Trial. John has also written over 50 articles published in peer-reviewed publications.
